Professional experience

Professor Youqi Wang received a doctoral degree in structural mechanics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1985. In 1987, she went to Paderbone University in West Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. In 1991, she worked at Drexel University as a post-doctoral research associate and adjunct associate professor. In 1994, she joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kansas State University as an assistant professor. She was promoted into associate professor in 2000 and full professor in 2008.

Research

Wang’s research focused on 1) composite mechanics, 2) composite manufacturing, 3) micro-geometry of 3-D fiber reinforced composites and 4) ballistic strength of soft armors. She has been principal investigator for more than 50 research projects sponsored by U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, Army Research Office, NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Office of Scientific Research and multiple airplane and composite manufacturers.

Academic highlights

Wang was named by the Ad Astra Kansas Initiative as one of the top 150 scientists ever to work in Kansas throughout its 150 years of statehood in September 2011.
