Student Organizations and Teams

Students apply their knowledge and skills through student organizations and creative inquiry teams. The real-world experience students receive gives them the leadership, teamwork and technical skills that are sought after by employers. There are several organizations that are directly related to the mechanical and nuclear engineering department.

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

The K-State student chapter of AIAA. "Shaping the Future of Aerospace." Organizing regular seminars, aircraft competitions and getting students involved in international academic conferences to present their research and inventions.

American Nuclear Society (ANS)

The K-State Student section of the American Nuclear Society. The ANS chapter is committed to advancing, fostering, and promoting the development and application of nuclear science and technologies to benefit society through career development events, nuclear education, and advocacy at the university level. Some events that the section regularly holds to accomplish this mission include hosting guest speakers from many nuclear occupations, campus outreach events, tours, and topical discussions about the nuclear industry. Students who become a part of ANS will become immersed in the ever-expanding nuclear field and have the opportunity to vastly broaden their career prospects.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

K-State's student chapter of ASME (the professional organization for mechanical engineers), offers professional development and networking opportunities for all MNE students, in addition to other activities. ASME events have included trivia nights with professors, guest presentations from industry experts, and tours of manufacturing facilities. Attending ASME events helps students develop and progress towards career goals, including job placement.

The Aero team designs and builds a remote-controlled model aircraft to fly with a maximum payload for competition.

Wildcat Rocketry is a high-power rocketry team dedicated to advancing students' skills through the design and construction of complex mechanical and electrical components.

Wildcat Wind Power Team

Wildcat Wind Power is a competition design team that competes bi-annually at the Collegiate Wind Competition hosted by the United States Department of Energy. This competition coincides with the American Wind Energy Association's annual conference.

MNE Student Advisory Board (SAB)

The MNE SAB is a group of diverse and highly motivated student engineers that serve as the bridge between the students and the departmental faculty. The MNE SAB represents the student body for major departmental decisions, promotes social events within the MNE, and encourages the MNE Department's betterment through improvements in the faculty, social experiences, and facilities.
